Transportation
The use of energy in the transportation sector is driven by our choices of vehicles, infrastructure development, fuels, and community design and represents one of the largest and fastest growing sources of GHG emissions worldwide, as well as one of the most vulnerable sectors to climate change impacts. Transportation programs are critical to economic and social systems but often do not make full use of available technologies and practices, including new developments in low carbon fuels, high efficiency vehicles or vehicle electrification, smart infrastructure, and resilient high efficiency community design. CCS provides critical assessments of road transportation system technologies, smart urban planning, and practices for rail, marine, and air systems, as well as cost and macroeconomic impact analysis, and program design and implementation mechanisms to support sustainable transportation approaches.
